Foster Care

WE NEED FOSTER CARE FAMILIES – YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

At LFSRM, we believe there is no such thing as “other people’s kids.” Through our Foster Care Program, we work diligently with our families to support them through the foster process and beyond. We provide skilled, caring substitute families for children unable to live with their birth families. Most children in foster care have been abused or neglected. Foster families provide children in foster care with a safe, nurturing home. In addition, they work with LFSRM staff to address each child’s individual needs. We provide the support, you provide a stable home, structure, and love.

Each year in Colorado, thousands of children are unable to live with their biological parents because of abuse or neglect.  Some of these children have witnessed domestic violence. Many have never experienced a birthday party or a sleepover with friends. Too many don’t know from day to day whether they will have a meal or a place to sleep.

You can help by becoming a foster parent! Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains is looking for safe, nurturing homes for children in need. We especially need parents who are willing to foster:

  • children over the age of 8
  • sibling groups of two or more
  • children with medical or behavioral issues

By opening your heart and your home, you can restore hope for a child in foster care as they wait to reunite with their family or to join a new family through adoption.

Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains can also assist with kinship adoptions.  Grandparents who want to adopt their grandchildren, or other family members interested in adopting relatives, as long as all parties involved live in Colorado.

Long Term Foster Care

This program serves youth while they are working on legal relief in the United States. These youth have been obtained at the southern border by the federal government, do not have any identified sponsors to reunite with, and have a likely pathway to legal relief in the US. Generally, these youth spend their time in a shelter-like setting, while they work to gain legal relief. The LTFC program allows the youth to have an alternative to living in the shelter. They are connected with licensed foster homes, where they can live with a family, attend public school, and begin making connections within a community. Learn more about this program.

Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Foster Care

Children under the age of 18, who have been resettled in the United States without a parent or relative to care for them are placed in LFSRM licensed foster homes under our URM Program. These foster parents have received special training on the adjustment needs of refugee youth. To become a foster parent for the URM program you must complete core training and other trainings to become licensed in the state of Colorado. Learn more about this program.
