Disaster Relief

Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) is an affiliate of Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). LDR is a cooperative ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The mission of LDR is to demonstrate Christ’s compassion for people by promoting hope, healing, and wholeness for disaster survivors.

When a major disaster occurs, LFSRM represents LDR in organizing and implementing broad-based disaster response efforts designed to minister to the urgent needs of people who are affected.

LFSRM/LDR have provided services in response to the following events:

2022 Marshall Fire and Wind Event, Boulder County 2020 – Cameron Peak Fire and East Troublesome Fire, Larimer County 2013 – Colorado Floods, Larimer County 2013 – Black Forest Fire, El Paso County 2012 – Waldo Canyon Fire, El Paso County 2012 – High Park Fire, Larimer County 2008 – Windsor Tornado, Weld and Larimer Counties 2005 – Hurricanes Katrina and Rita 2002 – Missionary Ridge Fire, La Plata County 2002 – Hayman Fire, Garfield County 1999 – Columbine High School Shooting 1997 – Fort Collins Flood 1996 – Trial of Oklahoma City Bomber

DR partner-organizations, like LFSRM, accommodate families, individuals, congregations and communities affected by disasters by providing: (1) emotional and spiritual care; (2) volunteer recruitment and coordination; (3) funding to support disaster response case management; (4) hardship grants to congregations; and (5) supplies to help people rebuild their homes and restore their quality of life.
