With support from Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM), the family enrolled their children in school, secured housing, and began rebuilding their lives. Yet beneath the surface, uncertainty remained.
Like many refugees, Amina's path to permanent safety did not end upon arrival in the United States. Important legal milestones still lay ahead, each one carrying significant consequences for her family's future.
Without timely legal assistance, so much could go wrong. A missed filing deadline, an incomplete application, or a misunderstanding of a complex immigration requirement could jeopardize benefits, family stability, or long-term opportunities for Amina and her children.
Through LFSRM's Immigration Legal Services program, Amina received affirmative immigration relief services, which help immigrants proactively apply for legal protections and benefits for which they qualify.
Our accredited legal professionals guided her through the process of applying for permanent residency, often called obtaining a "green card," while also helping her understand her rights and responsibilities under U.S. immigration law.

Today, Amina works full-time, her children are thriving in school, and the family is actively engaged in their community.
